Plate2018

Nature, which appears disorderly to our eyes, is categorised into systems according to taxonomic standards. Nomenclature of Colours (2018), referencing the classification under the same title invented by Abraham Werner in 1814, explores the reconstruction of mixed hues in nature into a systematic order and questions the validity of boundaries between different colours. Plate XIXX (2018) and Plate VIII (2018), respectively borrowing plates from 19th-century ornithology and oology books, examine the phenomenon of quantification and homogenisation that occurs when various entities are grouped into a few categories, and the artificiality of categories recognised as scientific.
